Rustam Minnikhanov meets Iranian delegation

On July 7, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Governor of Golestan province of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Mohammad Zanganeh.

Welcoming the guests, Minnikhanov emphasized that Tatarstan highly appreciates cooperation with Iran under the Russian-Iranian relations. “Tatarstan and Iran have rich historical, economic and cultural ties, a great experience of cooperation has been accumulated,” Tatarstan President said.

He said that mutual visits of Tatarstan and Iranian delegations are carried out and strong partnership relations are being built. In 2018, Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi, who was elected President of Iran last year visited Kazan.

The long-term work of the Consulate General of Iran in Kazan, the memorandum on trade cooperation, as well as the active interaction of Tatarstan with the Iranian provinces contributes to the development of relations. Minnikhanov said that before the pandemic there were direct Tehran-Kazan flights. Over the years, a number of Tatarstan companies implemented their projects in Iran, including KAMAZ Automaker, Tatneft Oil Company and Kazan Helicopter Plant.

Minnikhanov stated the need to find new forms and mechanisms for cooperation. In June, a business mission from Tatarstan visited Tehran. As a result of the visit, a serious mutual interest in the work arose. A single religion, as well as historical and cultural traditions, help to better understand Iranian partners and conduct business.

Cooperation in science and education is developing. A number of universities in Tatarstan and Iran have contractual ties, and 765 Iranian students study in the republic. Minnikhanov also briefed about the economic and investment potential of Tatarstan, the main industries and the existing infrastructure for the development of business projects.

“Golestan province is of great interest to us. I hope that today's meeting will give a good impetus to our ties. First of all, it is the development of our contacts in the agro-industrial sector, petrochemistry, engineering, healthcare, and the expansion of product supplies. The issues of transport logistics are very important. You are geographically in a convenient position. I think that we should carefully study all these opportunities,” Tatarstan President added.

The governor of Golestan province thanked the leadership of the republic for the high level of organization of the visit to Tatarstan. He stressed that Tatarstan and the province of Golestan have good prospects for cooperation. The development of interregional ties between Russia and Iran is fully supported by the leaders of both countries.

According to Ali Mohammad Zanganeh, Golestan is interested in mutually beneficial trade relations with Tatarstan. He supported Minnikhanov in the development of transport corridors.
