On 22 June, in the Day of Remembrance and Mourning, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a ceremony of opening a bust to the Hero of the Soviet Union Petr Gavrilov in the Village of Alvidino in Tatarstan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rustam Minnikhanov stressed that examples of courage of Tatarstan residents will stay in the chronicles of the WWII forever as more than 200 thousand compatriots of the republic were awarded by orders and medals for their heroism in the front, 353 became Heroes of the Soviet Union and 51 soldiers - Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory.
“The feat of Major Gavrilov is an example of resilience, fearlessness and courage. And erection of his bust is a sign of our respect to outstanding people and attitude to our past. We should raise our children on examples of such heroes as Petr Gavrilov”, he said and added that the memory of the hero is commemorated .in the names of streets in various cities of Russia.
In his turn the Honorary Consul of Belarus Konstantin Anisimov, who also took part in the ceremony, said that the name of Petr Gavrilov is well known in Brest and in all four museums of the fortress there are expositions dedicated to him.
