On 18 June Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and the Governor of Ulyanovsk region Aleksey Russkikh took part in an opening ceremony of the XXII Federal Sabantuy in Ulyanovsk held with participation of more than 40 thousand guests from 52 regions of Russia.
Welcoming the guests of the holiday, Minnikhanov said: “Dear friends, dear residents of Ulyanovsk and guests of today’s Sabantuy! This is a holiday not only for the Tatars, but for all ethnicities. We can see the high level of organization of the holiday and I am very grateful to Ulyanovsk region for such excellent preparation work”.
He continued: “Sabantuy has a centuries-long history, is the symbol of identity of the Tatars in the XXI century as well as the symbol of courage, power, hospitality and service to the nationality. It symbolizes the end of the spring field works and makes us acquainted with our cultural values.”
“It is my great pleasure to welcome our guests from Tatarstan and thank them for taking part in preparation and holding the XXII Sabantuy in Ulyanovsk region,” Aleksey Russkih said and continued: “The holiday has long ago spread beyond the national borders and is the nationwide cultural and historical treasure. The ideals of piece and concord and the good, which this holiday symbolizes, are important this year as never before. Let it become another guaranty of mutual understanding of peoples and ethnicities of Russia and the whole world”.
Then Rustam Minnikhanov and Aleksey Russkikh handed in a symbol of the Federal Sabantuy “Tulpar” to the Governor of Kemerovo region Sergey Tsivilev, who is hosting the holiday next year.
During the celebration residents of Ulyanovsk region were handed in awards for strengthening the inter-ethnic cooperation, preservation and promotion of national traditions.
