On 1 June, speaking at a ceremony of awarding large families with the “The Parent’s Merit” medal in the Kazan Kremlin dedicated to the International Children’s Day, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the main task of the state was to create conditions for stable family wellbeing as it was important that each family lived in harmony, concord and comfort and felt confident about the future. The awarded families are representatives of various ethnicities living in the region, such as Udmurts, Tatars, Russians and Mordva.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that the medals are handed in for the first time and the decision to establish a new award of the republic was made by the Tatarstan President with the aim of increasing the importance of the family and prestige of the parent’s work. The award is handed in to families whish are raising or have raised seven or more children.

“It is gratifying that the number of large families is growing and their number has increased by 66 per cent in the last ten years. The more such families we have, the stronger is our republic!” Minnikhanov said.

He underlined that today it is important to pay attention to strengthening and preservation of a full family as the moral and spiritual upbringing of a child is an integrated and common responsibility of both parents.
