On 30 May, during his working trip to Moscow, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Historical Mosque which is the oldest preserved stone mosque in the city.
The building of the mosque, which was returned to the Muslim community in 1991, was newly opened in 1993 and includes two facilities –the mosque itself and a madrasah both of which are cultural heritage sites.
Currently all facilities necessary for administration of sacraments are out of order, and during the visit Rustam Minnikhanov and the Chairman of the Russian Muslims Religious Board Ravil Gaynutdin were shown projects and models of the mosque reconstruction.
Tatarstan President proposed to keep a single style during the reconstruction so that the whole complex of buildings follows the style of the mosque architecture. He said that the building has rich history and it is very important to preserve it.
Moreover, there is a corresponding errand from Russian President Vladimir Putin to facilitate the Russian Muslims Religious Board in reconstruction of the historical appearance of the mosque and the madradah.
