Rustam Minnikhanov has laid flowers on the grave of the Hero of Russian Federation Damir Islamov in Leninogorsk region

On 10 May during his working trip to Leninogorsk region, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the local cemetery and laid flowers on the grave of the Hero of the Russian Federation Damir Islamov, who was the commander of the Т-72Б1 tank crew and died in action on 7 March 2022 during the special military operation in the Ukraine.

Minnikhanov met the family of the dead hero and expressed his condolences to his parents. He said that they raised a decent son who accomplished his military duty to Motherland with credit.

By the decree of the Russian President from 25 March 2022, Damir Islamov was posthumously awarded a title of the Hero of the Russian Federation for courage and bravery when fulfilling his military duty.

A mural in tribute to the Hero of Russia has been painted on the façade of one of the houses near the Kazan Tank School for perpetuation of the memory of the first lieutenant Islamov and in the nearest future his bust will be erected on the Walk of Fame of the Tank School and in Leninogorsk, the birthplace of Damir Islamov.
