On 24 April during his working visit to Turkmenistan, where he arrived accompanied by Director General of the Kamaz Automaker Sergey Kogogin and Director General of the Tatneft Oil Company Nail Maganov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov said that the trade turnover between Tatarstan and Turkmenistan decreased last year and made 77.5m US dollars which was by 27 per cent less than earlier. At the same time reciprocal visits of delegations resulted in implementation of a number of contracts, including supply of nearly 2 thousand Kamaz trucks in the last three years and construction of four training and service centers in four administrative districts of Turkmenistan. Two of them are to open in May and June this year, Minnikhanov said.

As far as the Tatneft operation is concerned, it was given high assessment by the Turkmenistan President with more than 1.35bn roubles of non-resource products of the Tatneft and other Russian producers supplied to Turkmenistan market in 2021.

Very promising spheres of cooperation are import replacement projects in oil field equipment repairs, Minnikhanov said.

He expressed his gratitude to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow for his personal attention to issues of Tatarstan-Turkmenistan cooperation within the diplomatic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.

“We highly appreciate support given by Turkmenistan administration to Tatars living in your country and for your being considerate to their national and cultural needs. Tatarstan also pays much attention to national and cultural autonomy of Turkmens”, Minnikhanov said.

In the end of the meeting Tatarstan President invited Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to take part in events dedicated to 1100 anniversary of adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria.
