On 22 March Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and the Russian Deputy Head of the government Yuriy Borisov visited the Kazan Aircraft Plant, where they, accompanied by Director General of the United Aircraft company Vadim Korolev and Director of the plant Nikolay Savitskikh walked around the assembly shops and got acquainted with the implementation of the program of reproduction of TU-160 bombers. Issues of increasing production of TU-214 passenger airplanes were also discussed during the visit.
Yuriy Borisov highly appreciated prospects of development of the production of the plant. He said that in the future the plant will be able to manufacture at least 10 TU-214 planes a year. “The aim of our visit is to see how quickly it is possible to increase production of our domestic TU-214 which is currently produced in small batches, so to say, for a special aircraft division”, he said.
Borisov added that the domestic Aeroflot, Red Wings and other airlines are considering possibility of using this plane and it is planned to replace foreign parts for TU-214 in the current year.
In his turn, Rustam Minnikhanov said that the tasks set forth by the Russian Government are quite feasible for the Kazan plant. “Our part of the task is to train the staff, engineering and workers and we will manage it”, - he stressed.
Yuriy Borisov also gave positive assessment to the work on reconstruction of TU-160. “As it is known Kazan is the main manufacturer of strategic aircraft for our air force. Everything goes as planned and the production is ready. This year we are expecting one modified and one new TU-160 planes”, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister added.
