Speaking at the end-of-the year collegium of the Healthcare Ministry of the republic held in Kazan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov has said that a new perinatal centre will be built in Kazan.

Making a key note report at the collegium, the regional Healthcare Minister Marat Sadykov asked the Tatarstan President to support the project of building a new perinatal centre in Kazan as “the number of high risk pregnant women grows every year as does the number of premature children who need high-tech help. IVF issues are also very sensitive and the number of the perinatal centre of the Regional Clinical Hospital is not enough, the Minister said.

Giving his comments to this request, Minnikhanov answered that the decision on the perinatal centre has already been made.

Speaking about results of 2021 in the healthcare system of the republic, the Tatarstan President has said that the working schedule of medical workers today is very hard but nevertheless main tasks are solved. “Of course, we are very worried about the mortality rate even though we are still in positive limits compared to other regions. The whole situation – planned treatment and preventive measures are not enough and we can see results of this. Second issue is the birth rate and to improve it we have decided to build a perinatal center,” he continued.

He attracted attention of participants of the collegium to the fact that a lot of modern medical equipment was purchased in the republic in the last years and highly qualified specialists are needed to use it.

Minnikhanov said it was possible to build facilities and purchase the equipment but the most important task was to supply specialists to the healthcare. ”We have two wonderful medical universities in the republic and we should purposefully work in attracting young specialists” he added.

Addressing medical workers, Minnikhanov said that it is very important to continue working as “the situation has not eased down and there is an OMICRON spike in the republic. We understand quite well it is not easy to work in such a regime for two years even though there are financial incentives. Yes, we have once visited the red zone, but we just were there – we did not do any work. That is why, please, pass my words of sincere gratitude to all your colleagues for their work”.

Speaking about vaccination, Minnikhanov said that practically 97% of the population has been vaccinated and results of this will help those people who will encounter COVID.

Take care of yourselves as you contact sick people directly. We can be replaced but you – not, he concluded.

In the end of the collegium the state awards of Tatarstan were handed in to healthcare workers.
