26.01.2022

On 26 January Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the end-of-the year collegium of the Healthcare Ministry of the republic held in Kazan.

Making a key note presentation at the collegium, the regional Healthcare Minister Marat Sadykov has said that even though the mortality rate of regional population grew by 11.5% in 2021 compared to that in 2020, the republic managed to maintain the lowest mortality indicator in the Volga Federal District and took 23rd place among other entities of the Russian Federation.

On addition there was an increase of women mortality in childbirth because of the CORONA while we managed to keep the same level of infant mortality as in 2020, the Minister said.

Speaking about the causes of death of residents in 2020, Sadykov said that 36.5% were caused by cardio-vascular diseases, 18.1 – by CORONA virus and 11.3% were caused by oncological diseases.

He asked the Tatarstan President to support the project of building a new perinatal centre in Kazan as “the number of high risk pregnant women grows every year as does the number of premature children who need high-tech help. IVF issues are also very sensitive and the number of beds at the perinatal centre of the Regional Clinical Hospital is not enough, he said.

In his report the Minister informed that because of the low birth rate and increased mortality there was a population loss in the republic in 2021. Thus 662 fewer babies were born last year and the life expectancy made only 71.25 years (while the indicator of the national project of Healthcare is 71.46, and Tatarstan failed to reach it).
