On 18 January President of Tatarstan took part in a videoconference meeting of the Presidium of the Government Coordination Council to control the incidence of the novel coronavirus infection in the Russian Federation held by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
Speaking at the meeting Mishustin said that the new strain of the virus, Omicron, is spreading extremely fast around the world. It is known to be highly contagious, as shown by other countries’ experience. “These numbers cannot but cause concern as Omicron has arrived in Russia as well, and not only to the capital but other regions too. We can see this from the morbidity statistics” – the Russian Prime Minister said.
He stressed that it is important for heads of regions to intensify efforts, including measures to coordinate healthcare providers, ambulance services and hotlines, engaging students, volunteers and interacting with senior citizens.
At the instruction of the Russian President, the Government has developed a plan of additional measures, most of them related to medical institutions and their work under the conditions of the spike growth of the disease, Mishustin said. The regions will be allocated additional 5 billion roubles to purchase medications and part of them will be procured on a centralized basis, for which another 15 billion roubles will be allocated, he added. Mishustin also mentioned the necessity to increase the numbers of tests and to expand the work of call-centers.
Addressing to employers, the Russian Prime Minister asked them to move their personnel to remote work where possible. And first of all this concerns elderly people and those with chronic illnesses, he said.
“The implementation of the plan is a major, demanding task. It is important that all measures are implemented in full and with respect to the current developments” – he concluded.
