Speaking at a videoconference with all municipal regions of Tatarstan in the Government House of the republic on 15 January, the President of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov said that because of the COVID growth caused by the new OMICRON strain many foreign countries are introducing new limitation measures.

Saying that the republic should be ready to build proper protective positions, he gave an errand to the Tatarstan Health Ministry to ensure timely deployment of additional beds in hospitals in case of need. “Even though it is not necessary for now, we must be ready for that”, he clarified. “Our hospitals should also have the store of medications and all other necessary things as well as observation facilities ready” – Minnikhanov said.

Speaking at the meeting, Tatarstan Minister of Health Marat Sadykov has said that 1 638 beds out of 2 750 deployed were occupied by infectious patients.

Rustam Minnikhanov also said it was necessary for the Ministry together with Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Agency for Surveillance of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) to step up testing the population.

“All introduced limitation measures will be maintained without any indulgence” – he said. We do not see any reason for easing these requirements, he concluded and reminded the simple protective measures against spreading the virus.

Minnikhanov has reminded that there are more than 400 thousand vaccine doses in the republic and 170 vaccination stations including one that works 24/7.

As many as 2 m 319 thousand people have been vaccinated with the first component of the COVID vaccine in Tatarstan, he said.
