Farid Mukhametshin meets Tatarstan media representatives

Chairman of the RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin met with the heads of the national media agencies on the Day of Tatarstan Press annually celebrated on May 19. Participants discussed the forms of interaction between state authorities and media.
Currently 768 media agencies are operating in Tatarstan. Republic occupies a leading position among Russian regions by the number of media outlets. Such strong media industry imposes certain responsibility both on journalists and public authorities.
“The media plays an important role in the life of modern society. Journalists and officials shall continue to work in tandem to maintain inter-religious and inter-ethnic peace and harmony in Tatarstan,” Farid Mukhametshin said.
Chairman of the RT State Council also pointed to a number of issues that require special attention of media. One of them concerns the law “On Education” aimed to solve the problem of cadres deployed in rural areas. Therefore, to enhance the prestige of labor professions media shall write more about labor people. Another serious issue concerns combating religious extremism. Journalists should be educated on the peculiarities of Christianity and Islam, so that to provide the readers with proper and accurate information.
Journalists have also raised a number of acute problems, in particular the long delay of newspapers and magazines distribution by postal services.
In conclusion, Farid Mukhametshin awarded a number of journalists with the Letters of appreciation and congratulated “Vatanym Tatarstan” newspaper with its 95th anniversary.
