The project of new TV tower in Kazan and the development of digital television in Tatarstan were discussed at the meeting in the House of Government. RT Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov and Gennady Sklyar, Director General of Federal State Unitarian Enterprise “Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network” took part in the meeting.
Farit Fazylzyanov, Minister of Informatization and Communications, Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, Irek Fayzullin, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan, Nikilay Nikiforov, Director General of the Center of Information Technologies, Vladimir Yakimov, Director of Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network branch office (Broadcasting Center of the Republic of Tatarstan) also took part in the meeting.
One of the main argument for the construction of TV tower in the capital of Tatarstan is the development of modern digital technologies and the need for digitization of the republic.
“We had analysed global and Russian experience and suggested to the leaders of Tatarstan and Kazan administration to build not just a TV tower but the complex, so called media city”, Gennadiy Sklyar said. “TV tower will perfom not only technological function, but will become tourist, business, trade and entertainment center, a kind of symbol of the city”.
Now there is several building sites for the project, but according to Gennady Sklyar, the building site at Troitcky forest (about 34,594 acres) is of greatest interest.
“We intend to realise the project by the Universiade 2013 in Kazan”, noted Gennady Sklyar answering journalists’ questions.
By estimate project costs are 4 billion rubles, and the tower itself will cost 1,5 billion rubles.
