On May 31, during his working visit to Yelabuga region of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Vyatsky Bereg reindeer farm, where he got acquainted with the welfare of animals and plans to attract tourists.

The project to establish a reindeer-breeding complex started in 2020. Houses for animals have been built, food supplies have been prepared. The first batch of 160 red deer arrived from Kaliningrad in December. To date, the number of animals has been brought to 479 heads. In addition to red deer, sika deer and fallow deer live there. The plans are to increase the livestock up to 1000 animals by next year.

Tatarstan President was shown houses for reindeer and also familiarized with the animal management system, which includes sorting, weighing, vaccinating and more.

Director of the Vyatsky Bereg Complex Gulnira Pesternikova told Minnikhanov that it is planned to develop a tourism cluster on the farm in the near future. “We want to establish a nature park and release sika deer there, as they are better assimilated in our nature. All conditions for tourists will be created. People will be able to come here with their families and watch animals in their natural environment,” she said.

Tatarstan President was also informed that reindeer will be chipped in the future. All information about an animal will be encrypted in the electronic tag, including its age, weight, vaccination data and other details.
