On February 20, at the Kazan Motor-Building Production Association, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yury Borisov took part in a solemn ceremony dedicated to the completion of the construction of the new Volga gas turbine power plant.
The new facility is intended to provide electric and thermal energy for the company's own needs. The resulting "surpluses" are planned to be sold on the retail energy market. The electric power of the station is 17.3 MW, and the heat capacity is 37.9 MW. The Volga facility is the Association's own development. Most of the equipment used in the project is Russian-made.
Tatarstan President emphasized the efficiency of combined energy generation and added that this development can be used in small towns of the republic. The basis of the economic efficiency of own gas turbine cogeneration power plants is the low cost of electricity and heat produced. According to Borisov, today gas turbine plants determine the trend in power generation and are widely used in generating electricity and heat for autonomous settlements and large industrial associations.
Director General of the Kazan Motor-Building Production Association Damir Karimullin said that the new plant will help the enterprise not only to save on energy, but also to make money on commercial orders.
After the solemn ceremony, Minnikhanov and Borisov looked around the new facility. To date, commissioning works are being completed here. In the near future, the power plant will be ready to reach its design capacity.
