Farid Mukhametshin meets with Commissioner for human rights of the Council of Europe Nils Muiznieks

Current state of affairs in the sphere of protection of human rights in Tatarstan has been discussed at a meeting between Chairman of Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin and Commissioner for human rights of the Council of Europe Nils Muiznieks.

The excursion at Tatarstan Parliament had been organized for the guest before the meeting.

Farid Mukhametshin said that it is a great privilege to receive such a guest and opportunity to tell about experience in the sphere of democratic development and protection of human rights.

Head of Tatarstan Parliament continued that the Institute of ombudsmen has been efficiently working in Tatarstan. Besides, the position of ombudsman was established a few years ago.

Farid Mukhametshin said that main Tatarstan achievement is ensuring of inter-ethnic and inter-confessional peace, consent and mutual understanding. Tatarstan authorities put much emphasis on issues of protection and ensuring of rights and legal interests of migrants.

During the conversation Farid Mukhametshin told about work carried out on creating comfortable environment for people with limited mobility, educational programmes, including improvement of computer literacy of the older generation, activity of judicial authorities, and operation of penal system in republic.

Farid Mukhametshin emphasized that protection of rights of orphan children and children left without parental custody are constantly controlled by the parliament.
