Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Governor of the Sakhalin region Valery Limarenko discuss issues of increasing the investment attractiveness of the regions

On November 12, at their meeting at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Governor of the Sakhalin Region Velery Limarenko talked about how to increase the investment attractiveness of the regions.

The delegation of the Sakhalin region is on a two-day working visit in Kazan to look into the experience of Tatarstan in a number of areas and get acquainted with the economic and investment potential of the republic.

During the meeting, Minnikhanov proposed making an action plan and signing a roadmap for joint work until 2023 in the near future. According to him, this will give an impetus to the development of business interregional relations, and will help build work in terms of increasing the trade turnover.

Minnikhanov reminded that the interregional trade between Tatarstan and the Sakhalin region is about 800 million roubles at the moment. Thus, Tatarstan supplies trucks, tires, medical equipment and food to Sakhalin.

Tatarstan President emphasized that the Sakhalin region could expand the volume and range of supplies of fish products to Tatarstan.

The expansion of supplies of mechanical engineering products to the Sakhalin region, cooperation with oil and gas enterprises of the region were mentioned to be the promising areas of joint work. Moreover, support for entrepreneurship and the development of investment infrastructure remain an important area.

“We are ready to share our experience,” Tatarstan President said, in particular.

During the meeting he also noted that about 4.8 thousand Tatars live in the Sakhalin region, and expressed his gratitude to the regional leadership for attention to the cultural needs of the Tatars living in the Sakhalin region.

Limarenko said that today the process of digitalization of branches of industry is actively underway, and much work is being done in the region to digitalize the social sphere. According to him, the experience of Tatarstan as one of the leading regions in the field of IT and the Sakhalin region can be used in other regions.

Limarenko also expressed his confidence that areas that will help increase the trade between the two regions will be found following the current visit of the delegation of the Sakhalin region to Tatarstan and acquaintance with its investment and industrial potential.
