On November 11, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov attended the exhibition “Catherine the Great. The Golden Age of the Russian Empire” at the Hermitage Kazan Exhibition Centre in the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve.
The exhibition includes several thematic sections dedicated to the personality of Catherine the Great and the main events of the period of her reign. The halls contain a large number of memorial items that belonged to Catherine the Great and other members of the imperial family, including clothing, children’s toys, jewelery, weapons, pieces of furniture, cameos, porcelain table services, books that Catherine herself wrote.
In the second part of the exhibition, Minnikhanov got acquainted with the main events of Catherine II reign, with the advances of the arts and crafts, and with the Empress’s reforms aimed at enlightening her subjects, and the development of the domestic industry.
A separate sector is devoted to Kazan. The Empress visited the city on the Volga river in 1767. Tatarstan President was demonstrated engravings showing views of Kazan and its environs, portraits of Catherine II in travelling attire and items that she took with her on her journeys. There are also books that were published in Catherine's time, in particular, the translation of the Quran into Russian. The organizers of the exhibition paid special attention to the history of the suppression of the Pugachev Rebellion.
The exhibition is accompanied by an educational programme and will be open until April 11, 2021.
