Tatarstan President: Monument to Mustai Karim in Kazan will further strengthen the Tatar-Bashkir friendship

On August 27, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov together with Chief of Staff of Tatarstan President’s Administration Asgat Safarov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and grandson of the writer Timerbulat Karimov took part in an unveiling ceremony of the monument to the famous Bashkir poet and writer Mustai Karim.

Mustai Karim is a classic of Bashkir literature and the author of outstanding works that have enriched the world cultural fund. He published over 100 poetry and prose collections and over 10 dramatic works. Karim was a laureate of a number of literary awards and prizes and the participant of the World War II.

In his welcoming speech, Minnikhanov said that last year, the year of the 100th anniversary of Bashkortostan, a monument to the Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay was unveiled in Ufa.

He expressed confidence that the establishment of the monument to Mustai Karim in Kazan will further strengthen the Tatar-Bashkir friendship, continue the traditions of cultural exchange and cooperation.

Tatarstan President handed in the medal “100th anniversary of the establishment of the Tatar ASSR" to the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov for his significant contribution to the development of cooperation between Tatarstan and Bashkortostan and strengthening of friendship and mutual understanding between peoples.

In his turn, Karimov thanked the leadership of Tatarstan and everyone who took part in the establishment of the monument.

Then Minnikhanov and Khabirov laid flowers at the monument.
