On August 4, during his working visit to Kazan, Russian Minister of Defence Sergey Shoygu accompanied by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Plant (part of the United Aircraft Corporation managed by the Rostec State Corporation), where he inspected the construction of Tu-160 aircrafts, the production of Tu-214 airliners, as well as the modernization of long-range combatant aircrafts.

During his visit, Shoygu inspected the processes of retrofitting the facility for the production of Tu-160 aircraft complexes and was shown the production workshops and facilities being re-equipped at the aircraft plant, including the world's largest and most powerful installation for electron-beam welding and vacuum annealing.

The Russian Minister of Defence was also shown promising developments in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles, including ground control stations, which make it possible to monitor the operation of various types of UAVs via satellites.

At the end of the event, Shoygu was informed about the upcoming transfer of the highly upgraded Tu-160 aircraft to the flight test station.
