Rustam Minnikhanov meets Director of Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vyacheslav Rozhnov

On July 24, at their meeting in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Director of Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vyacheslav Rozhnov discussed a project on the establishment of the centre for the study of rare species of cats in the region.

The project was earlier discussed at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation. The experience and knowledge of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Natural Resource Use and Kazan Federal University were to be applied in the design and construction of the centre.

Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan has a great desire to establish a similar centre for restoration and increase the number of the snow leopard. The experience of Severtsov Institute is of particular interest.

Rozhnov emphasized that the estabishment of a centre for the study of rare species of cats will help to research both to specialists from the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Regional Academy of Sciences and other institutes.
