Rustam Minnikhanov congratulates the Tatarstan people on the local holiday of the Kryashen culture of Pitrau

11.07.2020

On July 11, Tatarstan President addressed the Tatarstan citizens on the occasion of the local holiday of the Kryashen (ethno-confessional group consisting of the Tatars of the Volga and Ural regions) culture of Pitrau.

"Dear friends! From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you on the bright original national holiday of Pitrau.

Having revived in all its glory in the hospitable land of the Mamadysh region several decades ago, it has become a truly popular traditional cultural holiday held annually in our friendly multinational republic.

This "flower festival" invariably impresses its many guests and participants with its unique flavor, good humor, generous hospitality and competitive spirit. Inspired by ancient legends and dedicated to the saints especially revered by the kryashens - the apostles Peter and Paul, it has turned from the church menology in our common cultural heritage in Tatarstan.

Pitrau is a vivid example of centuries of loyalty to its traditions, respectful attitude to the culture and religion of its ancestors. A huge merit in the revival of the holiday belongs to the Public Organization of the Kryashen of the Republic of Tatarstan. Thanks to its fruitful cooperation with the leadership of the Mamadysh municipal region, the holiday is permanently held in the picturesque village of Zyuri.

I sincerely hope that this year's Pitrau online format will not only preserve its unique sound and a truly soulful atmosphere, but will also significantly expand the programme and the boundaries of the holiday and make it closer to an even larger circle of people.

It is known that on Pitrau a wonderful ancient custom has been preserved in villages where the Kryashens live on Pitrau - “to wait for the sun” all night long, meeting the dawn and the new day together. May the sun of friendship and cheerful fun always give us all its warm and fervent rays!

I wish you and your relatives peace, happiness, health, kindness and prosperity!

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.”
