03.07.2020

Address of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov on the occasion of the Tatar national holiday Sabantuy in 2020.

Dear citizens of Tatarstan! From the bottom of my heart I congratulate you on the life-affirming Tatar national holiday Sabantuy.

Its ancient traditions and symbols, which connect us to our native land with numerous of invisible spiritual threads, the generous mother nature and the glorious deeds of our ancestors, are eternally near and dear to us.

Sabantuy is a reflection of the original character of the Tatar people, their best qualities: industriousness and youth, sincerity and hospitality, endurance and loyalty to high ideals.

Openness and the unique atmosphere of genuine folk art have always attracted people of different ages, nationalities and faiths to the wide and noisy Maidan.

Sabantuy is a long-term source of creative energy that inspires us to labor achievements and noble deeds.

As the modern Tatar poet Renat Haris has pointed out: «Sabantuy itself is one-day, but its mood, charge, joke, trick and introduction are alive in us for many days in a row and not a week, not a month, or even a year, forcing us to weigh up again, evaluate the progress of affairs».

The celebration of Sabantuy in the year of 100th anniversary of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic is enriched with special content.

The enduring values of the national holidays become even closer and more visible to us, cultivate love of our culture and mother tongue and wake deep patriotic feelings in us.

I am sure that the celebration of the beloved national Sabantuy in the new online format will expand the scale and geography of the holiday and will preserve the cheerful mood and vitality of all its participants for a long time.

Let this holiday once again give us all the brightest, unforgettable emotions! Happiness, good health and prosperity to you and your loved ones!
