On April 20, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited Regional Clinical Hospital, where he looked around a new intensive care unit and the situational centre of the Regional Centre of Disaster Medicine.
A new intensive care block to provide medical care to patients in serious condition, including those with severe forms of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus infection was launched. The unit is designed for seven beds with the ability to connect to devices of artificial ventilation (IVL) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Head doctor of the Regional Clinical Hospital Rafael Shavaliev told Tatarstan President that ECMO is a unique device that can serve as lung and heart.
This procedure is needed when mechanical ventilation does not help anymore.
Then, Minnikhanov got acquainted with the work of the situational centre. The centre was established to improve the quality of care for patients with Covid-19. Doctors hold online consultations on all serious patients who are hospitalized in temporary infectious hospitals of the republic.
Tatarstan President appreciated the establishment of a situational centre and noted that such a centre will help to make the prompt and right decision.
