On February 5, during his working visit to Moscow, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met Russian Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin.
Minnikhanov congratulated Matytsin on his appointment to the post of Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and expressed confidence that professionalism, knowledge and experience will help him to achieve great results in strengthening the sports industry.
The parties discussed the implementation of “Sport is a way of life” federal project in the region and joint projects for the organization of sports events in Tatarstan.
The number of residents of the region involved in physical education and sports increased by three per cent over the year and amounted to 49,5 per cent.
Minnikhanov informed the Minister about plans to further improvement of the sports infrastructure in the region, in particular, the construction of a beach sports centre in Kazan, an ice palace and an athletics arena.
They also discussed the preparation and holding of sports events to be held in Tatarstan in 2020. The largest event is the First Games of the CIS countries to be held in Kazan on August, 20 - 27.
Kazan will host a festival of street extreme sports on Youth Day. A number of international competitions will be held in Tatarstan in 2020, namely, the stages of the World Cups and the championships of Russia in various sports.
