Rustam Minnikhanov and Sergey Chemezov launch the first project to install a recycling kiosk in Kazan

On January 31, at school No. 181 in Kazan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, CEO of Rostec Corporation Sergey Chemezov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and other officials took part in launching a pilot project to install recycling kiosks for automated collection of plastic, aluminum and glass containers.

In total, 20 recycling kiosks will be installed at Kazan schools. Every device can accommodate up to 300 half-liter aluminum cans and up to 1000 plastic bottles of different capacities, a total of at least 25 kilograms of raw materials, by means of effective compression of bottles and cans. It is planned to collect at least 2.3 tonnes of plastic and 600 kilograms of aluminum in one month using 20 recycling kiosks.

Minnikhanov noted that facilities for separate collection of garbage will be installed under the Our Yard Project. “However, it all depends on people. It is difficult to re-educate adults, while children can get interested in this project. In the future, they will call adults for separate collection of garbage. Therefore, schoolchildren will help us a lot in this matter,” Tatarstan President said.

He emphasized that without separate garbage collection and the introduction of new forms of waste disposal, the situation with solid household waste disposal in large cities could become much more complicated. “We are working on this project systematically. I am sure that all the planned tasks will be realized,” Minnikhanov added.

“In Russia, up to 70 million tonnes of garbage are produced annually. Rostec, together with its subsidiary RT-Invest, decided to establish centres for sorting and processing waste. One of the stages of separate garbage collection is the installation of recycling kiosks that will be delivered to schools and public places. Thus, each of us will be able to make a certain contribution to the creation of an environmentally friendly country,” Chemezov said.

Tatarstan President and CEO Rostec Corporation tested new recycling kiosks. High-tech devices can distinguish the type of packaging material according to its physical characteristics. Moreover, if a container is full or there is something left in it, the kiosk will not accept such a container.
