On January 15, during his working visit to Moscow, at the Representative Office of Tatarstan in Russia, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with the first Director General of KAMAZ Automobile Plant Leo Vasilyev.
Minnikhanov thanked Vasilyev for his great contribution to the development of the Tatarstan automotive industry. “We remember and appreciate your work. I bow to you and express my words of pride and respect. What you did in Naberezhnye Chelny is a historical event for the entire USSR. After all, KAMAZ has become a potentially new vehicle. You are one of the most outstanding personalities of our republic and the country as a whole,” Tatarstan President emphasized.
Then, Minnikhanov handed in the highest award of the republic - the Order of Merit for the Republic of Tatarstan to Vasilyev for his significant contribution to the development of domestic engineering and many years of fruitful work. Also, Tatarstan President handed in a medal in honor of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Tatar ASSR to him.
In his turn, Vasilyev noted that the construction of the Kama automobile plant became the largest construction site in the Soviet Union. “As many as 48 thousand people were involved in the construction of the plant. This is a huge team. Different moments happened, but we never had scandalous situations. People who worked at that time remember that period as their best days. KAMAZ is a great construction site,” he said in particular.
