On December 10, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov expressed his condolences over the death of former Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov in a corresponding telegram to his wife Elena Baturina.

“Dear Elena Nikolaevna! Please accept my sincere condolences over the death of your spouse Yury Mikhailovich Luzhkov.

A strong, hardworking man, an experienced politician and a major leader, whose name will stay in the annals of a renewed Russia forever, passed away. The history of Moscow, which he governed for more than a decade and a half, including in the most difficult transitional 1990s, is inextricably associated with the name of Yury Luzhkov. His active socio-political activities, the contribution made to the development of the Russian capital and the country's economy as a whole, made him widely recognized.

Luzhkov lived a rich, meaningful life and will remain in the memory of all who knew him a worthy example of high citizenship, admirable productivity and the desire to tirelessly build up for the good of the Motherland.

I am sharing the pain of his death with you and grieving."
