On November 18, at the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, Tatarstan President had a meeting with Russian Minister of Sports Pavel Kolobkov.

“We have a lot of topics to discuss. Kazan will host many international competitions, including the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, in the coming years. We plan to apply for the European Aquatics Championships. All the necessary conditions have been created in the city due to holding large international competitions such as the 2013 World Universiade and the 2015 World Aquatics Championship,” the Minister said.

“Moreover, we have discussed the concept of holding the so-called city games in Kazan. They will include national competitions in new sports that are very popular among young people,” Kolobkov added.

“This year we have organized a lot of events with the support of the Ministry of Sports of Russia. Thank you for both financial and methodological support,” Minnikhanov said. “I would like to thank the Ministry for establishing the Directorate of Sports and Social Projects, which holds all the major events in the region.”

Tatarstan President said that the Directorate serves as the federal operator of the GTO complex (Ready for Labour and Defense) and implements other large-scale projects. In particular, it organized the WorldSkills Competitions, which was held in Kazan in August 2019. “Though it is not a sport, but it is a competition, that is the same technology,” Minnikhanov said.

“Sport unites people and has become a way of life for a huge number of people,” Minnikhanov emphasized. “And we will continue our cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Sports in all areas.”

The meeting also discussed the preparation for the Games of CIS countries to be held in Kazan in 2020, as well as the prospects for the Sumo World Cup in the capital of Tatarstan.
