Rustam Minnikhanov: Over 170,000 specialists are employed in the Volga Federal District in tourism

On October 4, at the Kazan City Hall, speaking at a meeting of the Council under Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District on the development of internal and incoming tourism chaired by Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, who is a Сo-Сhairman of the Council working group,  said that tourism is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the economy of the District, contributing to the improvement of the image of the regions and the development of territories.

Tatarstan President said that during the last years, the tourist industry showed consistently high growth rate of key indicators in the District, namely, about nine million tourists visited regions and over 14 million people, if to take into account one day tours.

Minnikhanov emphasized that today the total amount of tax revenues to budgets of all levels in the district exceeds 27 billion roubles. Over the past four years, this indicator has grown by 40 per cent.

The tourist industry is creating new jobs. According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), every 1000 tourists create 13 jobs. “Over 170,000 specialists are employed in this area in our district,” Minnikhanov said.

According to Minnikhanov, holding of large-scale international events became a special driver for the development of tourism. Due to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the flow of foreign tourists has increased significantly. Preparation for the championship gave a big impetus to the creation and updating of the tourist infrastructure of the district.
