Tatarstan President and the Governor of Novosibirsk region open the Federal Sabantui

On June 9, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Governor of Novosibirsk region Andrey Travnikov and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Sergey Menyaylo as honored guests took part in the Tatar national holiday “Federal Sabantui – 2019”.

A dramatized prologue, describing the history and ceremonies of Sabantui national holiday, opened the festival.

After the music prologue, Menyaylo, Travnikov and Minnikhanov welcomed the guests and participants of the holiday. Tatarstan President thanked the most active members of the Tatar community of the Novosibirsk region and handed in Tatarstan state awards to them. Then, the honoured guests went to the venues of folk festivals and competitions and tasted national treats.

“The Novosibirsk region was not accidentally chosen the venue for the celebration. Over 24,000 Tatars live in the region. Ethnic groups of the Siberian Tatars were established on this land,” Tatartsan President said and added that the regional authorities have the greatest respect for the customs and traditions of all the peoples living in the region. He also said that it is the 19th Federal Sabantui held in the Novosibirsk region. Cheboksary, Astrakhan, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg hosted the Sabantui earlier. This year, the holiday is celebrated in 56 regions of Russia and 30 foreign countries with the support of Tatarstan.

At the end of his welcoming speech, Minnikhanov thanked Travnikov and the Novosibirsk citizens, who took part in the celebration, for the excellent organization of the event. He also thanked Head of the Nizhnekamsk region of the republic Aydar Metshin and the Nizhnekamsk citizens, who were the main organizers of the Federal Sabantui for several years.
