Extraordinary session of RT State Council of the fourth convocation has opened.

Tragic events that happened in Kazan on July 19 made parliament members break off their traditional holidays. Opening the session, State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin reminded that President of Tatarstan characterized attacks on Muslim leaders as “unprecedentedly cruel and impudent.”

“Law enforcement agencies are taking decisive steps to find criminals. However, we must strictly comply with current legislation, legal procedures and rights of citizens. The official position of the State Council must be based on the need for protecting rights and freedoms of citizens and ensuring of their safety,” Head of the parliament said.

According to Farid Mukhametshin, documents to be considered at the session are aimed at keeping traditions of tolerance and consolidation of inter-confessional harmony. Today’s proposals on improving legislation, studying and promotion of traditional religious values, counteracting extremism will be summarized for further adoption of appropriate legal acts focused on prevention of various displays of extremism.

“State and municipal authorities cannot stay indifferent to this problem. Citizens do not care much about which confessions face such attacks, they need calmness and safety,” State Council Chairman emphasized.
