On June 3, during his working visit to Helsinki, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met Acting Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintila.
During the meeting, Minnikhanov thanked the Acting Minister for the invitation to visit the country and to take part in the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF2019).
“This is a really important forum. This is an opportunity to find out a lot of useful things and to join this movement,” Minnikhanov said.
Addressing Lintila, Tatarstan President said that during his short visit to Helsinki, he has already met the Mayor of the city, visited the National Museum and got acquainted with the work and structure of the children's hospital.
Speaking about the participation in the forum, Minnikhanov emphasized that today the whole world community is interested in such issues as climate change, ways to counter emerging problems and the protection of the environment.
“The topic of renewable resources should be global today. The most serious attention is paid to this issue in our country, including under the implementation of national projects. Today, Russian specialists, including those in the regions, are studying the best international experience in environmental protection, waste management and the introduction of renewable resources principles, ” Minnikhanov said.
According to him, it is also important to train specialists in this area.
In 2016, the Government of Finland adopted the Strategic Programme with one of the key project on the introduction of the principles of the economy of renewable resources (circular economy), replacing the traditional linear production model “take – make - dispose”.
In autumn 2016, the Sitra Innovation Fund and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland published a roadmap, where the main aims were identified and pilot projects for various industries were developed.
