On May 29, in Kazan, speaking at an honoring ceremony of the winners and prize-winners of the 7th Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Competition, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the victory of the Tatarstan national team in the final of the competition is the result of a great work on the development of the WorldSkills movement. The aim is not just to take part and win in the competitions, but, first of all, to gain the best world techniques, technologies and standards introduced by the Worldskills movement into the educational system. This gives young people the opportunity to be competitive and in demand in the modern labour market.
Before the honoring ceremony, Minnikhanov looked around the exhibition dedicated to the participation of Tatarstan national team in the WorldSkills movement and watched the presentation on the development of the WorldSkills Russia movement in the republic in 2017-2019.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan is the 1st in the team rating of the final of the National Competition. “This is our third victory in the 7-year history of WorldSkills movement in Russia. It is gratifying that an excellent result was achieved at our Kazan venue, where WorldSkills Competition will be held in August. During the competition, about 1,700 contestants from 80 regions of Russia showed their skills in 92 WorldSkills competencies and 48 WorldSkills Juniors competencies. The Tatarstan national team included 260 contestants and 216 experts. As many as 218 contestants won 150 medals, including 58 gold, 49 silver, 43 bronze and 26 medallions for professionalism. First of all, I want to express my gratitude to the mentors and experts who trained the champions. Your skill, professionalism and hard work made it possible to achieve high results,” Tatarstan President said.
Minnikhanov addressed separate congratulations to the winners and prize-winners of the championship. “Your confident win in the final is a great start for your career, new victories in international competitions and the development of your professionalism. You have gained enormous experience, which will give an invaluable advantage in further career and personal development, a chance to defend the honor of the Russian flag as members of WorldSkills Russia national team, at the 2021 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai and at the EuroSkills Competition in St. Petersburg in 2022,” Minnikhanov said.
Tatarstan President emphasized educational organizations that trained the largest number of medalists, in particular, the Interregional Centre of Competencies - the Kazan Technical College of Information Technology and Communications (19 medals won) and the Engineering Lyceum of the Technical University for Gifted Children (13 medals).
Minnikhanov emphasized that extensive capabilities of vocational education has been established in the republic, 70,000 students are studying in more than 200 specialties and working professions in 91 institutions of secondary vocational education.
“We have established 31 resource centres with the latest equipment. Six more resource centers will be established this year. We will continue this work together with leading enterprises,” Tatarstan President said.
The past competition became an important impetus for the promotion of working professions and for the attraction of the attention of the business community and the public to the issues of improvement of professional standards and the training of demanded qualified personnel. Minnikhanov also said that 2019 was declared the Year of Working Professions in Tatarstan.
