On May 16, during his working visit to Turkey, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov together with Head of the State Archive-Keeping Committee of Tatarstan Gulnara Gabdrakhmanova visited the Public Record Office of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Turkey.
Minnikhanov was informed that the Public Record Office holds the Ottoman and Regional archives, which have rich collections of historical documents. The Ottoman Archive stores about 95 million documents and 400,000 registers of the Ottoman state period (the 13th century - first quarter of the 20th century). There is a huge body of documents, some of which are about 600 years old.
To date, the Regional Public Record Office keeps about 40 million documents and 117,000 registers. The funds of the Office are updated with new documents from departments and government agencies and because of this most of the documents need restoration and special restoration departments are working at the Office. During the visit, Minnikhanov saw the work of restoration specialists.
Much work is being done in the area of digitizing documents. Representatives of the Turkish Office reported that about 60 million documents have been digitized at the moment.
Tatarstan President also got acquainted with the capabilities of the Central Population Registration System. Experts said that today all the information contained in the registers of the population, has been converted into e-format. Due to this, citizens have the opportunity to receive services in the offices, working with the population, located in any part of Turkey.
