Rustam Minnikhanov: We want the Turkish business to continue developing its projects in Tatarstan

On May 16, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the Tatarstan-Turkey business forum during a visit of theTatarstan delegation to Istanbul. Minister of Trade of Turkey Ruhsar Pekcan, Chairman of the Turkish – Russian Business Council at the Foreign Economic Relations Committee of Turkey Tuncay Özilhan, Consul general Russian Federation in Istanbul Podelyshev Andrey, representatives of ministries and agencies of Tatarstan took part in the event.

Speaking at the forum, Pekcan stressed that the business forum will contribute to expanding trade and economic relations between Tatarstan and Turkey. “Thanks to competent actions of the leadership of Tatarstan, the republic has become a centre for attracting investments recently. Several Turkish companies are developing their production facilities in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. I would like to thank  Minnikhanov for the support provided to our business. In our turn, we are always open to Tatarstan companies and invite them to Turkey,” the Minister noted.

Turkey is known for its extensive experience in construction, Pekcan continued. “Turkish construction companies occupy an important position in the world market. We hope that our companies will actively implement projects in the republic,” she said.

The Minister also noted such spheres for cooperation as oil refining, petrochemical industry, the development of the halal industry and other areas.

Minnikhanov stressed that Tatarstan has good relations with many Turkish companies and added that some of them are opening their production facilities in the republic.

“Today we have had a meeting with the Gebze Company. We want to create an international industrial zone at the Sviyazhsk Multimodal Complex,” Minnikhanov emphasized. “Moreover, Sunrise City, a multifunctional housing estate, was built in Naberezhnye Chelny, with the Turkish Hyatt Holding being the project investor.”

He said that the Koluman project for the production of special equipment is underway at the Master Kama Industrial Park. Moreover, Saraç Makina is implementing a project for the production of plastic products in the Tyulyachi industrial park. We are working on the development of medical tourism with our Turkish partners, he went on to say. 

Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan is interested in various forms of cooperation with Turkey. He outlined such promising branches of industry as power engineering, petrochemical industry, engineering, IT, healthcare, construction, agriculture, tourism, and exchange of experience in the field of support for small and medium-sized businesses.

“We want the Turkish business to continue developing its projects in Tatarstan and are ready to create the necessary conditions for this,” Tatarstan President said.

At the end of the forum, a number of documents on cooperation between Turkish and Tatarstan companies were signed.
