On May 9, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov laid flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Colonnade of the Glory Memorial in the Kazan Victory Park.
Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, the veteran of the World War II, the Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Kuznetsov and other officials took part in the ceremony.
Upon arrival, Minnikhanov welcomed the veterans and congratulated them on the 74th anniversary of Victory of the World War II.
After laying a wreath and flowers at the Eternal Flame, Minnikhanov, Shaimiev, Pesoshin and other participants of the event observed a minute of silence to commemorate the memory of those who died during the war. The anthems of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan were played.
The officials of the republic also laid flowers to the Monument to the Mothers and Widows of the Fallen Soldiers.
Then, Minnikhanov looked around the new monument to home front workers and labour, established in the Victory Park. The monument is an architectural composition in the form of a mound, which depicts an anvil with a sword and ears of wheat. Tatarstan President proposed to further develop the memorial and to add information about the enterprises of the republic who made a significant contribution to the Victory.
