Rustam Minnikhanov and Radiy Khabirov unveil a monument to Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay in Ufa

On April 18, during his working visit to Ufa, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov tpgether with Acting Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov took part in a ceremony of unveiling a monument to the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay. 

Speaking at the event, Minnikhanov emphasized that Gabdulla Tukay is a significant creative figure both for Tatarstan and for all Turkic peoples as a whole. “The monument to the poet Gabdulla Tukay has appeared in this beautiful place of Ufa near the Tatar theatre. I want to thank the leadership of Bashkortostan. I hope we will continue to participate in such joyful events together. I wish success and prosperity to Bashkortostan!” he added.

Khabirov noted that the unveiling of the monument to Gabdulla Tukay is an important event for the two fraternal republics. “Now we have a new symbol of friendship between the Tatar and Bashkir peoples,” he stressed.

He noted that the life of the great Tatar classic was associated with Bashkortostan. "He loved Bashkir legends and songs, and the friendship of two great poets - Gabdulla Tukay and Mazhita Gafuri - brought the two fraternal peoples closer together."

The bronze monument to the Tatar poet is erected on the square in front of the Nur Ufa State Tatar Theatre. The monument was cast in Moscow. Its height together with a pedestal exceeds 8 metres. The monument was designed by the famous sculptor of the Republic of Bashkortostan Vladimir Dvornik.
