Mintimer Shaimiev: “The most important thing is mutual understanding between our peoples”

On March 21, Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev had a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Russia Mehmet Samsar, who had met Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and had made a tour of the Kazan Kremlin.

At the beginning of the meeting, Shaimiev showed the guest an exhibition on the activities of the Foundation of Revival of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Republic of Tatarstan and told him about the results of the project “Cultural Heritage: the ancient city of Bolgar and the island-town of Sviyazhsk” and the construction of the Bolgar Islamic Academy. He invited Mehmet Samsara to visit these holy sites. The Ambassador accepted his invitation.

During the meeting, the State Counsellor noted that people of Tatarstan appreciate long-standing good relations with Turkey and are striving to establish mutually beneficial ties. “The most important thing is mutual understanding between our fraternal peoples. This is a legacy that will contribute to the preservation and development of our languages ​​and cultures, strengthening the unity of the Turkic world. It is gratifying that relations between Russia and Turkey have improved recently. This provides ample opportunities and we have already achieved quite good results in the development of our cooperation,” he said and wished the Turkish Ambassador success in his work.

The meeting also touched upon issues of further cooperation between Tatarstan and Turkey as part of the development of all-round ties between Russia and Turkey.

Summing up the meeting, Samsar thanked Shaimiev for the warm welcome, interesting thoughts and suggestions and assured him that the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Russia will continue to fully support and help strengthen ties between Turkey and Tatarstan.
