On February 22, at a solemn ceremony in the capital of Tatarstan with participation of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Valery Gerasimov handed in the Order of Zhukov to the Kazan Higher Tank Command School.
They also took part in a ceremony of unveiling the monument to the Hero-Tankman, erected on the territory of the educational institution.
Gerasimov emphasized that today the School has the educational infrastructure necessary for efficient work and a trained teaching staff.
In his turn, Minnikhanov stressed that the current event is doubly significant for the School, because it takes place on the 100 anniversary of the educational institution. He briefed about the rich history of the School.
He added that wherever the graduates of the school were sent, they always were a role model of honor, courage and dedication. They showed their willingness to solve the most complicated tasks in Syria, where they acted boldly, decisively and courageously, Minnikhanov added.
“More than 50 graduates received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Russia. Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia- First Deputy Defense Minister of Russia, Army General Valery Gerasimov is among them. Another Hero of Russia - a courageous soldier, a proper officer and our countryman, Lieutenant Alexey Kozin, who gave his life, bravely fighting in the North Caucasus, is among the graduates of the school. It is gratifying that today the generation of defenders of the fatherland is equally devoted to the Motherland and its people,” Tatarstan President said.
