On February 5, at the University of Innopolis, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Maksim Akimov held a working meeting with participation of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Deputy Prime Minister of the republic – Regional Minister of Information and Communications Roman Shaykhutdinov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Innopolis University Nikolay Nikiforov on the development of the IT city of Innopolis.
According to Akimov, Innopolis University should be considered not only as an educational institution, but also a part of the ecosystem of the entire IT city. “Today, Innopolis is one of the key centres for the development of the digital economy in Russia. There are a number of challenges in each new case. I am sure that we will be able to solve set tasks working together,” he added.
Minnikhanov noted that Innopolis is a large federal project. He thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Government and federal colleagues for the support. “Innopolis fits very well into a national digital economy project. It will be very difficult to implement this project without such educational and research centres,” Tatarstan President said. He added that today over 4,000 residents and employees live in the science city. As many as 18 multi-apartment houses with the total of 1,000 apartments have been built. According to Tatarstan President, there are about 170 companies in the IT city, including 77 residents of the Innopolis Special Economic Zone and 9 partners in the special zone. “But the University is the most important thing. Today, it shows good results. But it is necessary to strengthen our work, set new tasks for the University and provide support. We, for our part, are actively involved in these processes,” Minnikhanov said.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the development concept of Innopolis University, funding issues and a system of state support measures for residents of Innopolis.
Later on the same day, Minnikhanov and Akimov met students and teaching staff of the university.
They considered the issues related to the work of foreign specialists in Russia, the development of e-document management and the prospects for the establishment of a military department at the University of Innopolis.
