Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in a summing up meeting of the regional Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites

On January 14, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a summing up meeting of the regional Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites, which considered work done in the republic on the preservation, use, promotion and state protection of cultural heritage sites in 2018 and set tasks for 2019.

Before the event, Minnikhanov and other officials looked around the exhibition of the most interesting artefacts.

The participants of the meeting were shown a presentation video on the preservation of cultural heritage sites of Tatarstan.

Then, Chairman of the Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites Ivan Gushchin, who chaired the meeting, made a keynote report.

He, in particular, reminded on work carried out to preserve the World Heritage sites, with the ancient city of Bolgar and the island-town of Sviyazhsk being the most important sites for everyone. This is confirmed by the increased tourist flow to these sites, Gushchin stressed.

He went on to say that the special credit is due to the Regional Foundation for the Revival of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Republic of Tatarstan and personally to State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, who also took part in the meeting. 

Gushchin also informed the meeting that a research centre to study wooden folk architecture will be established in Tatarstan at the Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering.
