Rustam Minnikhanov awards the best athletes of Tatarstan in the year

On December 17, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the annual ceremony of awarding the best athletes of Tatarstan “Athlete of the Year”.

Opening the event, Tatarstan Minister of Sport Vladimir Leonov said that the outgoing 2018 year was eventful.

“Tatarstan athletes won four medals at the Winter Olympics for the first time and three more at the Paralympics. Our game teams also achieved great results. An amazing Ak Bars team became the champion for the third time. Zenit-Kazan Volleyball, who won all trophies, and all of our other teams. We are proud of your achievements. Our athletes won 310 medals in all international championships and competitions,” he added.

Minnikhanov thanked all athletes and coaches for their great contribution to promoting Tatarstan sports. “Every one of your victories is a victory of our republic and the whole country. Systematic work on the modernization of sports infrastructure and training of young talents is underway in Tatarstan. We see that all these efforts yield results,” Tatarstan President emphasized.

Sport has become a kind of brand of Tatarstan, he said.
