Tatarstan President holds meeting with First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones

On November 26, during working visit of Tatarstan delegation to London, President of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones.

Tatarstan President emphasized that Wales is one of the most interesting and picturesque regions of Great Britain with a rich history and traditions. The main sectors of the economy are mining industry, steel industry, oil refining and petrochemistry, agriculture.

“We are interested in improving our relationship. I think that we could work more successfully at the interregional level. There is no contradiction between the Government of Tatarstan and the Government of Wales. We can make a quick agreement and implement certain programmes as part of trade, economic, educational, research and tourism relations,” Minnikhanov noted.

He proposed the establishment of a working group to determine priorities and interests for bilateral contacts and also indicated the possibility of organizing mutual business visits. “This will be a good impetus for our future work,” Tatarstan President added.

In his turn, Jones appreciated the achievements of Tatarstan in the area of economics and industrial development. He supported the proposal of Minnikhanov to establish a working group to analyze promising areas of cooperation.
