On Novembers 3, during his working visit to Moldova, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting with Head of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia Irina Vlah.
Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov stressed that Tatarstan and Gagauzia should become an example of mutually beneficial cooperation at the regional level as part of Russia-Moldova relations. “We are at the beginning of our way. We are working to open a representative office of Gagauzia in Kazan. We have plans to implement investment projects by our entrepreneurs in the field of petrochemical industry. We are interested in promoting our engineering products,” he said.
Tatarstan President also outlined prospects for cooperation in the agricultural sphere. In particular, he talked about the purchase of Moldovan seeds, vegetables and nuts. The products of Moldovan winemakers are also of interest, he added.
Minnikhanov said that he is sure that in addition to trade and economic relations, work should be continued in the humanitarian sphere. “We can work together in the field of education, health care, training and retraining of municipal officials, the introduction of e-government and the development of e-services. Our representatives are ready to assist you in these issues,” he said.
In her turn, Vlah noted that the relationship between Gagauzia and Tatarstan has a long history. Next May will mark 20 years since the date of signing the agreement on cooperation between the regions. “We have a lot in common in history, language and traditions. A lot of work has been done recently. Business and cultural missions have been organized. During our visit to Kazan, we met the Gagauz Diaspora and presented our culture,” she said.
“I am glad that we have manage to take serious steps in building economic relations. Today, a successful project is being implemented to supply corn seeds to Tatarstan. We are determined to continue this interaction,” Vlah noted.
