Rustam Minnikhanov visits the Virtual Human Interaction Lab and attends lectures on Biomedicine and Computer Technology at Stanford University

23.10.2018

On October 23, during his working trip to California (the USA), Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited Stanford University.

This private university located near the city of Palo Alto, California, is one of the best and top-rated universities in the United States and the world.

In 2018, Stanford University ranked first in the Reuters' ranking of the world’s most innovative universities for the fourth time.

Minnikhanov was shown around the university and was told about its history and current state, about innovations and principles of teaching.

Tatarstan President visited the Hasso Plattner Design Institute (also known by its unofficial name as “D-school” or “d.school”) - a design school at Stanford University.

Then, he took a tour of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab (VHIL) at Stanford University, which was founded in 2003 by Professor Jeremy Bailenson. The mission of the laboratory is to understand the dynamics and implications of interactions among people in immersive virtual reality simulations (VR), and other forms of human digital representations in media, communication systems, and games.

It was noted that the lab is sponsored by Google, the US National Science Foundation, CISCO, the Stanford Center on Longevity, Konica and other companies.

During his visit to Stanford, Minnikhanov attended lectures at the Higher School of Business. In particular, he listened to lectures on modern technology and methods for achieving longevity and research in the field of biomedicine by Professor Tony Wyss-Corey and a lecture on the development of such an area as virtual assistant by Professor Monica Lam (Computer Science Department)

Minnikhanov also had a brief meeting with representatives of the Tatar community living in California at Stanford University.
