Rustam Minnikhanov gets acquainted with the work of the Exploratorium interactive science museum in San Francisco

22.10.2018

On October 22, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, who is on a working visit in San Francisco, visited the Exploratorium interactive science museum.

The Exploratorium was founded by physicist and educator Frank Oppenheimer in 1969. In 2013, the museum reopened at Piers 15 and 17 on San Francisco's Embarcadero.

The museum is divided into several galleries mainly separated by content, including the physics of seeing and listening, human behavior, living systems, tinkering, including electricity and magnetism, the outdoor gallery, and the Bay Observatory gallery.

The principle of the Exploratorium is to make science understandable to the average person and to give scientific knowledge in its original form.

The Exploratorium Museum demonstrates all the theories that modern physics recognizes, all shown on experimental stands, which makes the museum interesting for both children and adults.

In 1984, an institute for secondary and high school science teachers was opened at the museum.

According to Minnikhanov, it is necessary to study the experience of the Exploratorium museum in terms of organizing work with schoolchildren, developing children’s research skills and interest in physics and other sciences.
