18.10.2018

On October 18, on his arrival in Tashkent, in the Committee on Inter-Community Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan with the participation of Hokim of the Tashkent region Gulomzhon Ibraghimov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Tatar Diaspora of Uzbekistan.

Today, Uzbekistan has one of the largest Tatar diasporas living abroad and amounts to over 200,000 people, which makes about one per cent of the total population of the country. Almost half of all Tatars of Uzbekistan live in the city of Tashkent and the Tashkent region.

“We should be happy for peace and mutual understanding between our peoples. Our main task is to maintain these traditions and brotherly relations in the future. I personally have many friends among the Tatars and there are also Tatars among the neighbours. A new friend and a brother Rustam Minnikhanov appeared one year ago,” Ibraghimov said during a meeting and promised that the regional government will contact the Tatar diaspora more often.

“Every time we visit the republic, we see positive achievements in Uzbekistan that have taken place over the past two years. It is gratifying that harmony and mutual understanding are preserved on this hospitable land. It proves that the Tatars are working and creating together for the good of Uzbekistan. If they did not, the local authorities would not be so friendly to them,” Minnikhanov emphasized in his speech.
