On October 15, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Culture Inas Abdel-Dayem and visited the Cairo Opera House and the Egyptian National Museum.
At the meeting with the Minister of Culture, Minnikhanov briefed about the history and development of culture in Tatarstan. Inas Abdel-Dayem was particularly interested in the activities of the regional theaters, because she had headed the Cairo Opera House in the past. Tatarstan President emphasized that Kazan annually hosts the Fyodor Shalyapin International Opera Festival and the Rudolf Nuriev International Festival of Classical Ballet, and invited the Minister to visit the republic.
“I am sure that cultural cooperation will be established the fastest way. Economists and industrialists think and consider for a long time and you, cultural workers, will set an example for them how to work,” Minnikhanov addressed the ministers of culture of Egypt and Tatarstan.
Abdel-Dayem listened with interest to the information about the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in Tatarstan, in particular, the Kazan Kremlin, Bolgar historical and archeological complex and the Dormition Cathedral and Monastery of the island town of Sviyazhsk The maintenance of interreligious and inter-ethnic peace and harmony became the common issue of discussion.
Today, Tatarstan is a multinational republic with 173 nationalities. Modern Egypt is also multiethnic and multi-religious. Minnikhanov thanked the Egyptian Culture Minister for the active participation of local filmmakers in the annual Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema, which is held under the motto "through the dialogue of cultures - to the culture of dialogue".
